The taxi voucher program in Homer is funded by a grant from the Alaska Department of Transportation (DOT).  This grant was a smaller amount for this fiscal year than in previous years.   With this grant we have offered the "local" vouchers for short taxi trips, (up to 4 miles) and "Far Out" for longer rides such as Anchor Point and McNeil Canyon.

Between having a smaller grant this year and the absence of CARTS program vouchers there has been a greater demand for DOT vouchers.  Unfortunately our supply of the "Local" vouchers for this fiscal year ran out on December 8th.  That means we have to discontinue selling the "Local" vouchers but we will continue to sell the "Far Out" vouchers.  

Not all riders qualify for "Far Out" vouchers.  "Far Out" vouchers are only available for those that live out of town such as East End Road, Anchor Point or Diamond Ridge.   If we are able to identify any additional funding for "Local" vouchers we will post it here on our site.

ILC has been involved in coordinating low cost transportation options for Homer, the Central Peninsula and Seward.   See this recent Peninsula Clarion for an update about current changes in transportation programming and funding on the Peninsula.

Alaska Senior and Disability Services issued the following information this week:

"The Alaska Department of Health and Social Services, Division of Senior and Disabilities Services (SDS) is seeking federal approval to establish a new home and community based Individualized Supports waiver (ISW) to serve up to 600 people who experience Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. This new waiver will target both individuals who are currently receiving services from the Community and Developmental Disabilities Grant (CDDG) program and individuals without supports on the Developmental Disabilities Registry and Review (DDRR). The scheduled go live date for the ISW is January 1, 2018."

ILC STAR staff can help consumers and families get ready for this change in services.  We can help with the following steps:

1.  Apply for and clarify the status of DD eligibility with Senior and Disability Services.

2.  Facilitate the Registration and Review (DDRR) required to be on the list of applicants for the new Individualized Supports Waiver (ISW)

3. Provide resources and referrals to service providers in your area.

SDS E-Alert – ASAGA Community Forums on Adult Guardianship

The Alaska Court System has implemented a new program called WINGS to work with stakeholders to improve the adult guardianship system.  WINGS is holding community forums for the public to offer their concerns, suggestions and questions. 

Who should attend?  Forums are open to the public

 Family members, guardians & individuals with guardians

• Service providers
• Guardianship professionals:  court visitors, court staff and attorneys
