Needs Assessment Survey
Community Access equal Integration and Inclusion of Alaskans with disabilities.
Take the SILC Survey
The survey will be combined with focus group results, interviews, and data collected for secondary sources to determine the areas/topics that will be specifically targeted by the Independent Living Network during the years of 2020-2022. The survey will take about 10-15 minutes to complete. Your responses will be confidential. Please share this survey with others that are interested in improving the lives of Alaskans with disabilities. All responses are appreciated! Also, you can enter for a chance to win one of two $50 gift cards (the gift card can be from one of several national companies, such as Amazon, Fred Meyers, Costco, Safeway, etc.). Neurodevelopmental screenings and diagnoses are delivered by Pediatric Neurodevelopmental Specialists from the Children’s Hospital and Medical Center in Seattle and the University of Virginia Children’s Hospital. These specialists offer screenings, evaluations, diagnoses, follow up referrals, recommendations for treatment and care, and information on early intervention and education programs, as needed. Sponsored by the State of Alaska, the providers and their teams travel annually to communities across Alaska. They are able to evaluate children from 12 months to 12 years old, and support local providers in meeting the developmental special health needs of infants and children in rural Alaska.

Kenai Peninsula Votes (KPV) is a Non-Partisan Group with a focus on encouraging voting. Their goal is to make the voting process easier and encourage voter turn out from all. They are based in Homer and have some volunteers that can help with transportation to the poles if planned in advanced. For more information see the flyer below or call 907-299-2517.

"Today, July 26th, marks the 28th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) signed by President George H.W. Bush in 1990. The ADA gives civil rights protections and assures equal opportunity for individuals with disabilities for access to business, employment, transportation, government programs and services and telecommunications." (DRA Disability Rights Advocates)
Systems Advocacy is work focused on making positive changes to safeguard and improve societal conditions for people with disabilities. Many organizations like the Independent Living Center engage in systems advocacy to address a variety of issues. The Independent Living philosophy is one of empowerment where peers come together to work for positive change. It is this principal that the nation wide Independent Living movement was founded and from which our agency takes its name. While ILC has a dedicated staff that provide a variety of services, it is central to our mission to bring together members of our community to work together for positive change. Whether it is improved access, voting rights, or accessible recreation, ILC invites participation from the communities we serve. Today as we celebrate the progress that has been made by the implementation of the ADA, and we acknowledge that there is more to do.
