    Happy June to every BODY!!!!

    What a beautiful Summer it's shaping up to be. SOOOO much sun!!! I can't believe that I'm hoping for a bit of rain. I know my garden would appreciate it. I hope that everyone can take a moment to let all this beauty sink in, we live in an amazing place.

    ☼ All TRAILS activities are FULL this month However there are plenty of spots left on the Rainbow Tours Wildlife Tour to Seldovia July 8th for $75!!! Wednesday 29th is the payment deadline. Sign up today!!! 

    A 7-hour boat trip around K-Bay, including a 3-hour layover in Seldovia to eat lunch and explore. Lunch provided. Look for whales, eagles, otters and more!!!

    The Independent Living Center and TRAILS is having a fundraiser this July and needs your art!!!

    Are you an artist with a disability or do you have an art piece that relates to disability? From First Friday, July 1, till July 20, we'll have a show of disability-themed art on display at Grace Ridge Brewery.

    July is Disability Pride Month nationwide, and the Independent Living Center, including its TRAILS inclusive recreation program, is holding an Art from the Heart FUNdraiser on Thursday July 21 at Lands End including a Disability Themed Art Show at Grace Ridge Brewery starting July 1st.

    *Attached below is the event flyer and the art submission form. Call me at 907-235-7911 if you need help with this form. All art will be donated to ILC as part of our fundraiser. If you'd like to donate art, look at the flyer, and when you're ready, give ILC a call at 235-7911 to schedule dropping off your art.

    Hey TRAILS community,

    I'm happy to announce that the TRAILS 2022 Summer One Hit Wonder Activity Calendar is finalized. Lots of great trips planned this summer!!!

    Let's have some fun this summer and see old friends and meet new faces too!!!

    Attached here & below is the Summer Calendar...come into ILC for a printed version for you and your friends/family.

    Make sure you pay attention to the payment deadlines! Sign-up and pay early if a trip interests you as some trips have limited participation and will fill up. Call if you have any questions or concerns. Some of these activities are more accessible than others. I'd be happy to discuss any of these trips in detail or visit a location with you ahead of time. Call to ask about possible scholarships assistance.

    Cancellation and Refund Policy: All cancellations must be received at least forty (40) business hours, before the start of the TRAILS event. Cancellations can be received in writing, by email, or verbal. No refunds will be made for cancellations received after that time, including scholarships. Refunds will be issued in the same form payment was made. Please allow two weeks for processing.

    Covid Protocols

    Masks will be optional except when carpooling to a location. If you are experiencing any flu-like symptoms please stay at home. Trips are subject to change or even cancellation in response to fluctuating Covid-19 case counts. Canceled trips due to Covid reasons will be refunded.

    Are you interested in a fun, highly rewarding experience this summer? Volunteers are needed to help folks go hiking, camping, horseback riding, fishing, berry picking, canoeing, cooking and special events while spreading the word about TRAILS!!! Volunteers need to go through a short training to be familiar with how we interact with people at TRAILS and ILC.  We'll work with you on what you're willing and able to do.     April is Kachemak Crane Watch

    Cranes are winging their way North. Watch for the first arrivals in the next few weeks and let Kachemak Crane Watch know by calling 907-235-6262 or emailing  This is the most reliable way of making sure important sightings make it into our citizen science information for the year.  Date, time, location, behavior and number of cranes is helpful.  Happy crane watching! 

    Thursday 14th 9:30AM-3:15PM - Group Ride to Fred Meyer's in Soldotna using BUMPS Bus ($10 round trip)

    Have you heard about the BUMPS bus but would like to go as a group first? Let's discover this great service together. Thanks to the Ninilchik Traditional Council , BUMPS is a program offered to create an affordable transportation choice that serves the community.  ADA accessible transportation connecting our communities together!!!! We'll meet at 9:30AM in front of Homer's Safeway, hop aboard and travel to Soldotna's  Fred Meyer's at 11:00AM.  We'll have 2 1/2 hours to shop and eat lunch. Bus leaves Fred Meyer's at 1:30PM returning to Homer's Safeway at 3:15PM. Call to RSVP at 907-235-7911

    Saturday 16th 10:00AM - 12:00PM - Tech Help at the Homer Public Library

    Twice each month you can drop by the library and get help with whatever computer or e-reader questions you have. These sessions are FREE! 

    Saturday April 16th 1:00PM - 2:00PM Family Craft & Story Time at the Pratt Museum

    Join the Pratt every third Saturday of the month until Summer for crafts, treats and story time. Projects and stories available for all ages. This is a FREE, family-fun event. Each month will have a different theme. Check out @prattmuseum or the website for more details. Masks are required inside of the museum. Thank you!

    Friday 22nd 1:00PM - 2:00PM - Celebrate Earth Day with TRAILS and the Homer Seed Library

    Meet at the Homer Public Library and learn about a great program from garden guru, Saskia Esslinger. Saskia is: a lifelong gardener, permaculture designer, teacher, founding member and creator of the Seed Library. Being a member of the library, you can "check out" as many seed varieties as you like and choose a few to save seeds from to return to the library and lend out to the next gardener. All of this program is free to the community!! Let's chat about planning and sowing your garden this summer. Grab some seeds for your summer garden!!!

    Friday 29th 2:00PM-4:00PM - TRAILS Disability in Films Group Screening - Free

    Once a month TRAILS will host a showing of a film or documentary that highlights and celebrates various disabilities. Join us in person or virtually from your home on Zoom.  Limited seating available for in person screening so call early to RSVP.  We'll pop some popcorn, watch the film and spend some time discussing.  Stay tuned for the movie choice and the virtual link.

    Find great deals on books and plants with prices starting at just 10 cents!  All proceeds go to Friends of Homer Public Library.

    What a big, fun week is coming up!

    Submissions to the Disability Art Show for EveryBODY are due 5 pm this Monday, March 2. Remember that artwork should be ready to hang or otherwise display.  Call us if you need the artists’ submission form to submit with artwork.  Or you can download it by clicking here: 

    Then Homer’s 1st annual Disability Art Show opens this Friday, March 6, 5-7 pm.  It’s gonna be a fun opening—with artist talks, refreshments, live music, and more. Join us at Homer Council on the Arts! 

    Next Saturday, Walk with a Doc at SPARC (9-10 am) while your kids play in the free BOUNCE HOUSE!

    There's almost too much going on to fit it all on one page--but I did it (sort of).  Here are some highlights that didn't quite fit in the calendar itself--but you'll find them in the "howdy paragraph" above calendar listings.  And the calendar's full of so much more--get it right here: weekly events February 15-22 plus art class flyer.pdf

    Sign up for 2 fun art classes this week to create art for the Disability Art Show. Classes will be at Skiff Chick Feb 21 and 22—a flyer with all the details follows the calendar. (Art submissions are due March 2, and the show will run from March 6 to 28 at Homer Council on the Arts.)

    This Sunday join TRAILS’ Michael Gavillot for Table-Top game night at the high school 

    And join the TRAILS walking club at 1:30 on Wednesday, destination TBD.  

    Finally, celebrate Inspiration Ridge becoming part of Homer’s permanent wildlife open space—the FREE gathering is Friday at Alice’s from 5-8 pm.

    Valentine’s Day is this week, and if you want to share camaraderie with Veterans, their friends and families, join the VALENTINE’S for VETS potluck on February 14 at the College from 6-8.

    You can also join Tibetan Buddhist meditation with Mingyu Chokyi Osel Rinpoche Tuesday evening at the college; text 435-1655 for more information. 

    Finally, Skiff Chicks is putting on art classes Feb 21 and 22 to help you create art to submit to the Disability Art Show.  For information, check out the Skiff Chicks FB page.
